Server-based Computing
Recent developments in thin-client technologies has meant that
organisations of all sizes who need to link remote sites or users
to central resources, are now turning to server-based computing
to provide a cost-effective solution. In the world of mobile computing
and remote access, server-based computing reduces the amount of
processing carried out on the end user device, thus enabling simple
devices to efficiently access applications such as email, databases
and CRM systems across a wireless connection.
Another scenario when a server-based computing solution is ideal
is where an organisation wants to make use of legacy devices such
as desktop PCs. In this situation, PCs which may not have the processor
power or memory to locally run high-end, powerful applications can
be used by employing thin-client technologies that enable the processing
to be carried out within the central server farm.
Citrix is
central to Ultima's solutions (we even use it ourselves!) and we
are proud to have been appointed as a Citrix Platinum Partner and
an Authorised Support Centre (one of only 5 in EMEA). Both accreditations
demonstrate to our customers Ultima's expertise and commitment to
the 'accessibility' solutions the Citrix offers. Ultima's qualified
consultants have proven experience with each of the technologies
used in a server-based computing solution, including products from
AppSense,
Lexmark,
Microsoft,
UniPrint and
Wyse.
